Day 6 - Cafehopping... Ippudo Ramen

Starting the day off with brunch at Breakfast Thieves, an overseas store of a Melbourne cafe. I had their scrambled eggs croissant years back when I was in Melbourne, it was so good that it was one of the few Melbourne trip experience that still I remember! So definitely, I had to order croissant with scrambled eggs, and got some baby spinach and their version of smoked salmon - citrus cured salmon, as well. The scrambled eggs and croissant wasn’t as good as the one I had in Melbourne - croissant was not crispy, eggs were not creamy and probably a little overcook. I like my scrambled eggs runny and creamy! However, their coffee was probably the best one that I had during this trip, maybe I’m being bias, or maybe their beans just happen to suit my palate most. Overall, it was still a rather satisfying meal!

This area called ‘APW Bangsar’, which represents ‘Art Printing Works’ located at Bangsar region, is like a factory area with a few cafes. Right next to Breakfast Thieves is another cafe called PULP, which I popped in for my second cup of coffee. I can have endless cups of coffee, but I cannot not have coffee! After which, I went to a nearby library which has a warehouse-looking kind of exterior, with an interior of cement and steel, metal bookshelves, not your usual library! However, it was closed. If you are planning to visit this library, be very mindful of its opening hours! It is only open 3 days per week, and for only 3hrs per day! Thursdays to Saturdays, 3pm to 6pm.

Next, took a Grab down to Common Man Coffee Roasters (CMCR). This is probably the prettiest and the most luxury-looking Malaysian cafe that I’ve been to! Back in Singapore, the previous cafe that I worked at, was one of Common Man’s clients, so they were our bean supplier, as well as our coffee trainers. CMCR Singapore have lots of Phillippino staff, and I was surprised CMCR KL as well! It almost made me feel that it’s Phillippino-owned, but no, it’s actually founded by an Australian if I’m not wrong. Because of the many bad experiences that I encounter with Phillippinos, be it at work or on the streets, it made me not want to interact with them, and it makes me feel uncomfortable being served by one.

Next, I went to Shugatori Dessert Cafe, where they serve pretty waffles, lava toast, and pancakes in many different flavours, each with an unique and cool names. I ordered ‘Daniels’ which is a charcoal (black) and red crispy waffle topped with strawberry compote, lemon cream cheese, vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce. The sauces were great, but the waffle was a little too crispy that it kept falling apart - it didn’t had the soft middle part to hold the crispy exterior together. Then, I thought of visiting Masjid Jamek next, which is one of the oldest and most popular mosque in KL. I arrived at about 3:55pm, and saw that they were closing at 4pm! What?!! By now I guess it’s rather a bad idea to visit Malaysia’s mosques during Ramadan as they generally close a lot earlier then said closing time, probably in preparation for break fast prayers. So I was only allowed to take photos from the entrance. Many will say that you need to be mindful of how you dress when you visit a mosque, especially for ladies; but fret not, the popular mosques in Malaysia, especially those that had become tourist places, provides comfortable hooded long-sleeved coats where you can wear over.

After which, I took a Grab back to Pavilion for some movie time again! This time I’m watching Detective Pikachu, and Pikachu was so so cute! All the pokemon were really cute, but Pikachu was exceptionally cute since he’s the only pokemon who could speak - actually there is a reason why he could speak, you have to watch it to find out! Lastly, dinner at Ippudo Ramen!! ‘Ippudo’ means ‘one wind hall’, and this Hakata-style ramen started in 1985, and is famous for its signature tonkotsu ramen. One of the most popular ramen brands in Japan, and boy was it good! While, there is a reason why it’s so popular, because IT WAS SO GOOD, freaking amazing! I got the Akamaru Special, that has additional special blended miso paste and garlic oil, as well as some melt-in-your-mouth pork belly slices, pork loin, ramen egg, black fungus, beansprouts, scallions and seaweed sheets. I also ordered a side of corn tempura drizzled with unagi (eel) mayo. This was so good too! Simple ingredients with amazing flavours!
