Land of Smiles | Bangkok Day 2

Today's first stop is morning coffee at TAMP Kafei, a beautiful cafe and bar with a 60s Chinese design and they serve their lattes in pretty Chinese tea mugs! Reminds me of old Shanghai, with the neon lights.

Then, I head off to another cafe called BLOOM, which specialises in pretzels, offering it plain with French butter, with almonds, or with fillings like 55% dark chocolate or cream cheese. I got a plain and a chocolate pretzel, as well as an iced latte. The pretzels were really good and soft, and I think this might actually be my first time trying pretzel!

Following after, I went to Chatuchak! Forgot about the fact that Chatuchak is only open on weekends and today was a Friday! 😂 Oh wells…

Proceeded with my next location, Gump’s Ari, a modern-looking community space with lots of pretty cafes! I visited Fuu for some yummy souffle pancakes! I’m a huge fan of souffle pancakes and not all places did it right and good, and souffle pancakes in S’pore are just wayyyy too expensive ($16-24) for me to want to try them. The best that I’ve tried so far was Neighbour’s Coffee Bar in KL. It was soooo good and soooo pocket-friendly (RM18-22)! Fuu’s pancakes were really good too, I tried it with seasonal fruits, priced at 235B. The banana slices came bruleed, love the extra touch!

[Right] KOI store was not at Gump's Ari itself, located at a street near to Gump's Ari.

Bangkok is known for its animal cafes and within Ari, there is a nice one called Dog in Town (they have another store at Ekkamai)! Entrance fee is 350B and it comes with a drink - lots of options! Good thing about this place is they don’t imposed any time limit, unlike most animal cafes which is usually at 30mins. You’re welcome to stay here as long as you like! They have a mix of breeds here like corgi, samoyed, husky, poodle and bulldog. The cafe consists of two parts, the outdoor grass patch area for the dogs’ water and toilet break, and the indoor section which is air-conditioned with proper seating. You do have to remove your footwear before entering, so do come in something that is easy to remove and put on.

Next, I went to Daylight Saving for some gelato, a pretty yellow and blue store. Hence, they have two signature flavours, “daylight saving” in yellow and “daylight yogurt” in blue. The former is a combination of saffron, rose water and pistachio. The latter is a combination of yogurt, lemon and blue pea. Flavours are rotated monthly. I tried daylight yogurt and lychee rose, for a contrast in colour. The store is outdoors.

Then, I went to EmQuartier, a pretty garden-themed mall that features a 30ft open-air garden on L5 and a 5-storey waterfall. One thing bad about Bangkok, is its jam! Took me 65mins to reach EmQuartier even though it’s only 11km away! It was about 6pm when I reached and I don’t know why, I was already so sleepy! Went to %Arabica to get a coffee and took a walk around the mall. The %Arabica store here was really pretty! Also in garden-themed, aligned with the mall’s design concept.

I initially had plans to visit Chinatown, but then it started to rain! So instead, I made the decision to take the BTS, 1 stop to Terminal 21 for dinner. Terminal 21 is also where my hotel is located nearby, which means I can just walk back after I’m done. What’s special about this mall is that it is around-the-world themed! Meaning, each floor is the concept of a different country! There was also a farm themed pop-up event going on, where they sell farm produce on one floor, and on another floor was farm animals! The animals were soooo cute and it’s my very first time to see piglets in real life! Other than piglets, there were other farm animals like goats, guinea pigs, rabbits and tortoises.

Walked around the mall and decided to try Hachiban Ramen for dinner as it was only 100B! Got the Teriyaki Chicken Ramen to try, and a side of 6pcs gyoza. The food was quite good, but of course there are better ramens. As for the gyoza, I would prefer it to be slightly crispier. Got Thai milk tea from ChaTraMue before I left the mall, and that’s it!
