Day 4: Chatuchak, Pretty Food and Flaming Dessert

First stop for today is Chatuchak Weekend Market. You can find more tourists here than Thais, which explains most of the items, especially trendy/fashion items are on the steep side. You can also find lots of amazing food here, both traditional street snacks and new innovative food. I wished I could try all of them! It was so so warm, I was literally covered in my own perspiration. How do people even managed to eat hot/spicy/fried food in this weather? I feel full just by looking at it. Determined to finish walking the whole market, it took me about 2.5hrs to finish it, and I was already dying from the heat halfway through. Luckily it was not really crowded, otherwise it is gonna make it so much worse. For food, I got the Fried Quail Eggs, Coconut Ice Cream in Shell, and Ice Lollies made from assorted soda drinks like Coke, Sprite and fruit-flavoured sodas. The iced desserts were saviours! There were lots of coconut shell ice cream around, but I particularly chose this store as he had blue sticky rice as one of the topping. Brownie points for an Instagram-worthy photo.

#7: These THB5 soda drink ice lollies are a saviour under the hot weather!

After cooling down at the mall opposite, DD Mall, I head off to the first cafe for the day, Audrey Cafe and Bistro. Audrey Cafe and Bistro, providing a memorable and cozy ambiance inspired by French vintage, that offers Thai and European fushion dishes. In celebration of their 7 anniversary, they launched a series of unicorn themed food, drinks and desserts. So tempted to get the unicorn pau (yup the Chinese steamed bun) served with salted egg sauce, but since I already had both unicorn and salted egg desserts, I decided to go for something that I have not tried before. I got the Squid Ink Spaghetti Seafood Tom Yum Marinara and a Hydrangea Cake.

Next was Mocking Tales, a medieval themed cafe. There is no flaming dragons here, but they do have flaming desserts! They have three flaming items:

1) Inferno Mountain - browine, rice krispies, 3 scoops ice cream, covered in chocolate cone, raspberry sauce;

2) Dragon Fire Breath - banoffee tart, bananas, 2 scoops ice cream, covered in cotton candy;

3) Spirit of the Past - 1 scoop ice cream, frozen strawberries, covered in torced meringue, raspberry sauce;

And I got the third one, the smallest dessert. The flaming process that lasted a mere 30secs was a great experience! They also have drinks and mains in crazy names and ideas, A+ for creativity!

Followed by was Shugaa, mainly drinks and desserts. I strongly recommend this place! This place is super pretty and the items are all very pretty, innovative and good! The off-menu cakes are sooooo pretty, I couldn’t decide which to get! Best of all, this place is a lot less crowded as compared to most of the cafes that I have been, so it is a lot easier to take photos, and also great place for those who love to take aesthetic shots. The place is also brightly lit with lots of sunlight!

Finally I went for A10 (drink) and Breeze (cake). I have no idea why the drink is called ‘A10’, but it is a lychee rose drink that consists of rose tea, lychee syrup, lemon, soda, rose petal ice cubes and a sous vide lychee. Whereas for the cake, Breeze, a beach inspired dessert that consists of pineapple, rum, coconut, mint and white chocolate; topped with a fondant ring buoy, chocolate stones and sand crumbs. I think ‘Breeze’ is the prettiest amongst all!

#22: Favourite no. 2: Banana + Berries + White Chocolate + Yogurt + Rum + Hazelnut; nana crazy!

#23: And favourite no. 3, which I eventually chose this because of the colours: Pineapple + Coconut + Mint + White Chocolate + Rum; ready to go tropical at the beach!

#24: [Front] Breeze, THB170. [Back] A10 - Lychee Rose Soda, THB135.

Finally to Toby's. Toby’s, founded and started by Toby Smith, is super popular in Australia! I tried their coffee once in Melbourne and it was one of the BEST coffees, alongside with popular cafes like Top Paddock and Breakfast Thieves. So thrilled to be able to find a store here while exploring Bangkok.

After which I returned to my hotel for dinner as I have so much leftovers and stuff bought from 7-11. It is day 4, halfway through my 7-day trip, and places that leaves a mark on my memory, are definitely worth coming.

1) Invisible Coffee Room - super good coffee, unique drinks, minimalist concept, friendly staff.

2) Rocket Coffeebar S.12 - super good coffee, popular amongst Caucasians, great food.

3) Osaka Osho - super good gyozas!

4) Unicorn Cafe - all girls favourite place! Pretty unicorn themed food, drinks and desserts. Arrive just after they open for a good seat!

5) After You Dessert Cafe - desserts are great but on the steep side. The waiting time is a killer.

6) Baan-Ajarn - CNN Travel recommended authentic Thai restaurant, their food is marvellous!

7) Chatuchak - great place to shop, but you have got to bear the heat!

8) Audrey Cafe - yummy food but dessert so-so.

9) Mocking Tales - great to experience once but the desserts are priced at whooping prices that are twice the price of my pasta. It probably could buy you 6 Pad Thais. Friendly staff!

10) Shugaa - super pretty place, super Instagram-worthy. The drinks and desserts are super pretty too!
